Revitalization for a Greater Gretna (RGG) is a non-profit organization
which was formed by a group of concerned citizens in Gretna, Virginia.
The group recognized the need for revitalization in the small town and
have been actively planning for improvements and perusing grants since
2005.
RGG members have a Wish List of projects to improve the appearance of
Gretna. Some of these projects include new signage at town entrances,
hiking and biking trails, a streetscape improvement for several blocks
of Main Street, and reconstructing the train station which was once a
hub of social and economic activity in Gretna.
A Master Plan for some of the Wish List projects was developed in 2006
by Harvey Design Landscape Architects. The Master Plan defines
hardscape improvements as well as a planting plan to reintroduce urban
forestry in the town limits. Funding for development of the Master Plan
was provided by a grant from the Virginia Department of Forestry.
Funding for the projects on the Wish List and in the Master Plan will
come from multiple grant sources. Significant fund raising activities
by RGG are a critical component of grant applications. Demonstrating
the ability to raise funds through local business support and creating
events which revitalize the spirit of the town will increase our ability
to receive funding.
RGG meets every 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm at the American
National Bank - Chamber of Commerce office. All citizens of the Gretna
area are invited to attend.
We thank you for participating in the race and we hope it has increased
your physical fitness and community awareness. By working together, we
can make Gretna, Virginia a thriving town again.
